SEO Facts Search engine optimization is one of those things that has created many different opinions on every single effort that is associated with the practice. Over the years there have been lots of different ideas and feeling surrounding the way people conduct search engine optimization but the reality is that there is more than one way to do. Here is a list of 10 little known SEO myths: 1. Search engine optimization is invisible: False. You might not be able to put your hands on it, but there are always ways to physically see and feel SEO movement. A search engine marketing company should be able to specify exactly what it is that they are doing for you. You should be able to see the efforts that have been conducted. If you are told that it is their own secret formula be wary because, like the stock market, there is no secret formula to search engine optimization. 2. SEO results happen overnight: Wrong. Regardless of what you do, or how much money you spend on SEO, your rankings are not going to increase over night. The effects of SEO take time, and if you are in a competitive market category, it could take even longer. You will see some movement fairly quickly, but hard ranking changes don’t happen immediately. Some patience will be required. 3. Some SEO tricks work: Incorrect. Try to get the idea that using SEO tricks on your website will work out of your head. The search engines are on to these tactics, and you will likely just end up being penalized by the search engines. Black hat SEO only creates brief ranking results that do not last long term. 4. PPC (Pay Per Click) helps: Not true. If you are wondering if pay per click advertising helps your organic rankings, it does not. Even those who have been penalized by the search engines can create a Google Adwords account. Ultimately, good SEO will do you far more good than any PPC campaign. 5. You need thousands of links: Fallacy. You need good solid one way links to your website that have occurred naturally. The ones that occur naturally tell the search engines that you are a good source of information and that other sites recommend you. For that you will ultimately be rewarded overtime. 6. Pagerank is everything: False. Pagerank was originally created by Google to give a webpage power. Pagerank has become much less important than it used to be, and no longer means you are going to rank high in the results. Pagerank ultimately really doesn’t mean anything to the world outside of google. 7. Some SEO companies are partnered with Google: Not true. If anyone ever tells you that they have a direct partnership with Google they are lying to get your business. Nobody has a direct relationship with Google, and if they tell you otherwise, run the other direction. 8. Buying links is acceptable: Incorrect. Some people still think it is OK to buy links for their website. The major search engines have repeatedly let the industry know that buying links is frowned upon. Sometimes you can’t avoid it. An example is if you want to be in the Business.com directory, it will cost $299 a year. In situations like this it is OK, but going through a text broker is not, and should be avoided. 9. Google analytics give Google too much info: So what? Honestly, what does it matter if they know how many visits your site gets? Google doesn’t care, and they only use the information to strengthen their search algorithms. 10. SEO is one time deal: False. SEO is an ongoing process. SEO is something that is constantly required because the search engines are always changing their algorithms. The Internet landscape is evolving constantly, and the process of marketing your business online requires a very proactive approach. There are many myths about search engine optimization, but not all of them are true or false. Search out credible sources online and educate yourself as much as you can before you enter the world of SEO.
